High mount 45mm or low mount 55mm stripper?
« on: Mon 13 Apr 14:16 2020 »
I did a quick search and couldn't find out what direction to take here.

There's plenty of info and opinion on the interwebs about which is better, all I could find was threads on different forums that degenerated unto arguments more than made qualified points.

I have a Butterworth 12'6" 1 piece rod I have had for years which has served myself and the previous owner very well over it's lifetime.

Previous housemate's wife knocked it off it's rack and broke the brazing on the stripper.

I do have a Fuji highline 45mm I think it is which I purchased a few years back to change when these weer all the rage.

Has anyone done the change from wire stripper to highline guide with an opinion either way?

Cheers folks

Alvey 600 A1

Currently has a wire stripper but housemate knocked it over and broke the brazing on the ring.

You can fix the guide, easier solution if nothing else was damaged. Silver solder etc.
If you're going to replace it, I'd use a fuji BKWAG 50.

Thanks Dave, I'll give repairing it a go as it is a pain to rebind a new guide
