Electric winch for '98 Hilux
« on: Mon 16 Mar 18:09 2020 »
Reckon about time got with the crowd and installed a winch to the Hilux.

Will I need to upgrade my single cranking battery?

Will the cheapest 4wdSupacentre electric winch  get the job done for 80% recoveries winching forward?
Have hand winch currently and works for winching backwards with heaps of manual effort.

Or what is cheapest winch would fit or upgrades do to cheapy?

Steel or synthetic rope?

You'd probably get away with a cheap winch but you'd have
to run a snatch block on it.
I'd go for deep cycle battery, The hilux battery would overheat on good pull.
Got a 9500 on my Patrol, works good.

Is your bull bar winch compatable?
Not all tools are usefull
Nappies and politicians should be changed regularly for the same reason.

Have snatch block all ready to assist with hand winch.

Deep cycle would cook as not designed to be pulling 200+ amps at full draw.
What size battery/s you have winch connected to in Patrol?

Thanks Ray

Is your bull bar winch compatable?

Yes but going to use one of these and add decent cabling to rear. Will add buck booster is needed

Will make bracket it accept it behind the bull bar.
I am different in most things and dont see reason to cart it around 6 months of year that dont need it.

Recovery rear wards is usually quicker in situations I have been in.
