Brunswick Heads does it again
« on: Wed 23 Oct 16:12 2019 »
Hi,

Since moving to another house in July i have not had much time to get out fishing. Today saw a window of good weather so we headed to Brunswick Heads after checking what the swell was doing because the river mouth is very shallow and any reasonable swell makes it too risky to cross.

We crossed the bar at 3.30 am with a SW wind blowing and a bit of slop from the NE which surprised us only to find when we traveled out further it was blowing NE. Reaching the 85 metre line we had a drop there only to find the current pushing us at 2.5 knots so went wider to see if there was less current however it was just as bad.

Decision time: head south towards the Cape or go to some shallow marks. The shallow marks won out and in we went to find the snapper were there. Not a lot but some good size all taken on float lines with pillies the stand out bait.

I thought i had a good cobia on at one stage, went deep then up to the surface and stripping line so we followed in the boat to retrieve some line only to find it was a big manta ray. Then Peter lost a good snapper to a mako shark which went air borne after smashing the snapper close to the surface. Quite a sight.

Until next time.

Cheers,

Ross

    Thanks for the report

Nice snapper Rosco, at least you managed to get out there since you moved house. Been couple of years since I've wet a line recreationally. Maybe next year for me.

    Cheers
