GPS 2019 Week Rollover
« on: Fri 8 Mar 11:18 2019 »
Hello.  Not many people will remember this but every 1024 weeks your GPS counter will roll over because it uses a 10 digit binary number. It rolled over in 1999 and is next due to do this on midnight 6th April 2019. Besides a later GPS, I still use an old Garmin [ for hikers ] with a lead for 12 v operation in my boat and all the dates are wrong after the last rollover but the GPS waypoints are still correct.
Use your computers search engine and type in the subject as above.  It appears newer GPS devices can counteract this reset but just in case, it is worth being forwarned... . denyskay

Thanks for the 'head's up' - correct me if I'm wrong, but it is my understanding that this will only effect GPS receivers that have been in operation for more than 10-15 years without firmware updates.
This is the second GPS rollover that I'm aware of, I'd assume many manufacturers will have made preparations to handle the problem.
