Another one bites the dust - sort of....
« on: Wed 5 Dec 11:05 2018 »
Went for a look out the front of Margate yesterday. Caught about a dozen squire and a few grassies - none of them even close to legal. Even the bream were a bit scarce - only kept 2, although one of them was 39cm. Got 3 keeper sandies from 4 pots in about six hours - better than none! On the way back in I ran up the Pine and found this just upstream from Dohle's Rocks on the southern side of the river. A bloke has been living on this boat at this spot for a year or so, but I guess he's now looking for new digs!

I didn't fish the Pine Johnno52. Just ran over most of my favourite prawn holes with the sounder to see if there was any early action. There wasn't!

Was out in the Pine this morning and ran past the location of the sunken boat on the top of the tide. I could see by the swirling of the water on the surface that there was still an obstruction there. On my way back to the ramp I motored in close to have a look. The boat is still there, lying on its side, with a bit of loose decking or canopy just reaching the surface as the tide was falling, but still attached to the wreck by a rope or cable. At high tide nothing at all is visible, even though the wreck is barely below the surface. There is no buoy, float or sign warning of the wreck under the water. This is a very dangerous situation, especially at holiday time with many once a year boaties roaring around in tinnies, totally oblivious to the regulations on boating, probably unlicenced in many cases, and as far as boating etiquette goes - forget it!!!!
