Sight Casting for Whiting
« on: Mon 3 Dec 12:57 2018 »
As a follow up from my previous post, I did manage to find a small hole the next day when we went for a walk along the beach.  It was only about a foot and a half deep and absolutely full of whiting.  We didn't have any gear with us but had fun herding them into a corner where they would take off through the shallows or dart between our legs when they ran out of space.  I came back with a line but by that time the tide had turned and small dart had infested the hole.

The whiting had moved to the shallows and were very visible so had an absolute ball sight casting for them.

Spent a great couple of hours and although I saw some horses, couldn't get the bigger ones to take a bait (or I couldn't stop the smaller ones getting to it first).  I did manage to get a feed, but must have thrown back 20+ slightly undersized fish.

Anyway, fun times!

Dave

    G'day Lapras,

Thanks for the report. Nice gutter, was that location accessed with 4WD?

    Cheers,

    No Bondy, pushbike.

From my place anyway, or a nice walk along the beach which is how we found it.  It was near Access 110 which is just off David Low Way where it runs around the north end of the Sunshine Coast Airport runway.

    Hi Dave,

Seems like a very good spot, fish is a bonus though. I've been tempted to drive to that area, from what I gather I would need to get the barge across, would that be correct? I have a normal sedan.

    Hi Bondy
I think this would be somewhere along the Marcoola area beachfront, just north of the Maroochy River, beachside of the Sunshine Coast aiirport there. Not sure exactly which access point though. No need for a ferry ride.
