Another feed from offshore Tweed Heads
« on: Fri 31 Aug 17:09 2018 »
Hi,

Early morning start again, through the bar at 5.00 am to a 15 kn SW'er with a bit of swell that picked up overnight. As the winds were supposed to drop to light variable we kept going, a bit rough but have been in worse.

Fished a trag spot for 9 straight up dropping just as many part of the way up, once the sun got up they went off the bite. Headed out further to the 36's to find very little current with only the wind pushing the boat. Plenty of fish showing on the sounder but very slow on the bite. After getting some fish there it was 9.00 and the wind had not dropped " then the decision" go in shallower or risk heading out to the 40 & 50 fathom line. Out we went and about 11.00 am the wind dropped and swung around to the SE to give us a beautiful calm afternoon.
Even out wider the fish were hard, plenty showing but first drift you would get a few, second drift over the same area maybe one or two , third drift none, move to another mark and the same pattern.
We kept moving every couple of drifts and picking up  a few fish with each move.
Plenty of whales around with some near by encounters and several swimming directly under the boat. They came to us while drifting.
We ended up with Trag, snapper, pearl perch, venus tusk fish, pig fish & a flat head. A long day but a good day with 3 on board.
All fish caught in NSW and all over legal length.

Cheers,

Ross
