Butchering screen house designs/plans
« on: Mon 15 Jan 18:18 2018 »
Looking at making screenhouse for hanging carcasses of hunted animals overnight or during winter days.
Every station during sheep and beef haydays had them.
Not in situation for even quick trip out to Gundi for decent look and measure up.

Thing is places that hunt how long I will be hunting there in future is not assured. So any structure really needs to be removable easy enough as well.

Was thinking along the idea of 6 security doors 2nd hand screwed to metal frame with hanging bars. With possibly gutter up top and hession hanging down to suck the water down for added cooling effect.

Crazy idea while having a few beers the other week and got about 8weeks to have go at making one.

Once broken down into cuts most have car fridge to handle long term cool storage requirements

Thinking old cream sheds yse to work with no added power source due to their design as well.

That knowledge of design is gone with everyone spoke to in last week away

You can buy screen tents that work well, they usually have a good floor in them as well.
I would opt for one of those and make a pair of tripods to put your meat rail on to hang the carcasses.

Be ok to butcher in during day with flies about but needs to be able keep flies, ants,  dogs,  gonnas and rats out.

Idea is so myself and others can hang over night either whole animals or most likely rear legs and back straps and  butcher next morning before flies get tÚ bad.
Or if taken mid morning can let it cool down during middle of day and butcher in cool of late evening or after dark with no flies about.

In NZ there is meat safe near most camping huts on DOC lands to hang the meat away from flies and vermin.
Want to copy similar but large enough for whole rear legs of red deer to be able to hang whole.
Unusual to be able recover as whole as mostly where 4wd cant access is where the animal will be found.

This year have coldroom trailer for March and April peak times. The cooler part of year when take meat animals there is usually frost or fog about in mornings and sub 5'c temps and lucky if gets over 20'c in sun. In shade and bit of breeze through wet hession the meat will cool quickly.

High teck rednecks. I guess that most of them live close enough to where they shoot or are shooting on their own property that it could be set up at home
Looking forward to the next trip
