Removing seat box
« on: Fri 20 Jan 14:01 2017 »
Hi all,

I am toying with the idea of removing the passenger seat box in my boat.

My thoughts are to remove the seat totally and using my large esky in its place with a thick padded top.  The esky and seat box are the same height and if I have the padded top the same thickness as the current seat there will be no difference in height.  I am also certain that I can come up with a simple restraint to hold it in place using a small ratchet strap, which would also allow me to remove the esky if needed without too much fuss.

So, has any one else done something similar? And if so how do they or their crew find sitting in a seat with no backrest when travelling long distances offshore?  Also, would moving the esky further forward have much of a negative effect on the boats handling?  Having the extra weight on the passenger side is a good thing as under the drivers seat houses my two batteries.

Cheers, SK

If that's a folding seat, fix it to the lid, problem solved, you may need to adjust some weight via gear placement if you load that esky up and have a heavy "sitter" but that's a work in progress eh

Pulled my passenger seat out of haines sig 540f as most people generally stand up so its not a big deal, you will love the extra room.
If they do want a seat i just push the esky down the back and they sit on it against the transom.

Hi SK,

I did something similar on my centre console, took the fixed seat box out and just use a big esky. It gives me the freedom to move it around and get more deck space when fishing.

Cheers
