What could be wrong with my trailer brakes?
« on: Tue 27 Dec 17:17 2016 »
I noticed my trailer brakes were locked on and I couldn't pull the boat out of the carport.
I put the car in reverse and backed up until "bang" and they were free.
While in tow there were a few strange / unsusual noises but I didn't let that stop me.
When I returned I investigated and took a couple of photos for your amusement.

I was able to knock the pad off with a flat blade screw driver and clean up the rotor.
New set of pads and she's all good to go.

Looks worse than what it was but it's all back together working perfectly.

How long was it between dunks?
And
Do you wash down your trailer after a run?
Just one more cast

That was 4 weeks of just sitting in the carport after a salt water dunking.
I always wash my gear after use but on that day my young bloke was helping me and I suspect he missed the brakes while I was filling up a soapy bucket of warm water.
One of the pads had been wearing funny so they needed to be changed anyway.

Are the brakes working correctly??

Couldn't see the cable in the picks?

We spray inox on ours after each trip, just a little bit of maintenance will go a long way
