Last piece of the puzzle (boat)
« on: Mon 26 Sep 22:01 2016 »
Hi fellow project enthusiasts, as title says, I have now started the tinnie part
of my project, bought the boat cheap from our leader a while back and now
getting into it, money has been a bit tight so has not happened as fast as
I had hoped.

I am setting this up for a Dam boat that can be used for crabbing and prawning,
so casting platforms are a must for me for this.

First step was to remove the front seat mounts as it was a forward steer model,
then out with the centre seat as well. I noticed that the bow had some damage
and had cracked when the winch roller went, don't know how it happened but
they must not have any teeth left when they did it as it was hit pretty hard.

This potential weak point was not going to cut it as I will be nudging trees and
putting it up on non soft landing points, so I contacted a mate of Len's, Craig who
has a welding shop to weld up and strengthen the bow, we welded a 13mm solid
round bar from the keel to gunwale, while there he welded up some holes as well
for me, I think it was a piece of Swiss cheese in a past lifetime.

Now back home to design and construct, next was to fit a trolling battery mount
up front ready for when I get clearance to buy a electric for it.

Got home a bit early this afternoon so I did a bit more work on the tinnie,
I welded up a bow mount support and started to frame out the front
casting platform. I welded a heavy support tube from the floor rib all
the way to the gunwale as the main frame for the platform to put the
strength back in from removing the middle seat.

    Cheers Jason

Yeah Neil, old school Johno 40hp tiller should do the trick, maybe not the
best on fuel but is what I have for now.

    Hey Daveo,

I have had it for a while but did not touch it for a fair time after, here are a few more
pics of the slowing progress, finished framing out the hatches for the rear platform
and a sheet of alloy rear to be cut out for a tank and a small sounder consol. One other
of the start of a fuel tank in for a test fit.

    Cheers Jason
