Caboolture River run
« on: Mon 16 Dec 22:19 2013 »
Thursday arvo I get a last minute call from a mate keen to soak the pots north side for the night and with nothing much else to do I readily agreed.  The plan was to set 4 of mine and 4 of his but once we were on the water I realised I'd left the polypipe braces for 2 pots at home! Oh well down to 6....
Set the pots in record time and decided to try some of the deeper holes with live baits.
Looked like the only things hungry were the mozzies and the occasional eel or catfish when an unweighted banana prawn bait was inhaled aggressively- resulting in a very nice 52cm Jack!

Turns out he was a loner though as it was the only decent fish for the night.
Pulled the pots about midnight and headed home after throwing about 30 crabs back either Jennies or undersize, only one buck making the legal length.
Not the best trip but not the worst either!

Very nice jack! The river is strange like that. I've never got more than 1 jack in a session there. I'm surprised you didn't get hit by any sharks or catties though. Bad luck on the crabs hey? Should have been more than one keeper about at this time of year.

thought about going out for sharks at night a couple of times, but not game to leave my car and trailer at either ramp after dark!
